Drum Crafting Ceremony – birth your medicine drum for Summer Solstice

Drum Crafting Ceremony – birth your medicine drum for Summer Solstice

Description

Come join us for the Summer solstice to create your own medicine drum and connect with the energy of the season!

This offering will take place over one evening ( Saturday 20th Dec 3pm - 5pm) and one day (Sunday 21st Dec 9am - 3pm).

This ceremony is open to both female and male energies

These dates have been chosen to flow with the energy of Summer Solstice also known as Litha which marks the longest day of the year and mid-summer here in the Southern Hemisphere. The Festival represents the peak of the earth's cycle, full bloom, full expression, celebration, gathering & abundance. Litha or Summer solstice is the equivalent energy to the Full Moon, where everything is illuminated and the Full Potential is realised or seen. We will also be in the opposing energy of the Dark Moon and the New Moon, which represents shedding, beginnings and new growth. This brings in a balance of light and dark to this Solstice, meaning it is a good time for all.... shedding, birthing, growing and bringing in your Highest or Fullest Potenital, your entire self.

KEYWORDS FOR YOUR DRUM:

FULL BLOOM, FULL POTENTIAL, FULL EXPRESSION, CELEBRATION, COMMUNITY, BALANCE, CREATIVE ENERGY, SHEDDING, BIRTHING NEW THINGS, GROWTH.

During this process, you will be working with your own birth imprint. In the weeks before the journey you will have the option of a 1:1 Shamanic womancraft session ( open to early bookings only). This session will guide you through a series of questions and lead you to understanding your own birth imprint and finding your own formula for creating and birthing new things. You will find this a useful tool to have during the birthing of your drum as you notice patterns and thoughts arise through the process of weaving your drum.

The role of Charmaine Louise is to facilitate and guide you through the process of crafting and birthing of your own medicine drum.

What you will take home:

A completed drum, Instructions for caring for your drum & materials to create your own handmade drum beater. You will also be invited to join a full moon drumming 2 weeks later to welcome your new drum. I also hold community drumming events that happen at different times through the year in the Fremantle area.

Flow of the drum birthing:

Saturday night: We will gather together in ceremony, creating a sacred container and setting our intentions for our medicine drums. Our drums will be born from hide and tree (a 15" drum frame lovingly made from Divine heart frame drums). We will drop into a drum journey to activate ourselves, the hides and connect to our animals. We will then start the process of transforming and preparing our hides with intention for our birthing journey the next day. Warm drinks are supplied, I recommend you eat something light before arriving.

Sunday: We gather again in ceremony and begin the journey of weaving our drums. This day is dedicated to our drum birthing/creating. We expect to finish at approx 3pm and will close the ceremony together. It is important that everyone stays until everyone has completed their drum. Please BYO lunch, light snacks and warm drinks provided.

Drum sizes and types available:

The drums on offer are round, 15' frames. You can choose to work with Kangaroo, Goat or Fallow deer. There is also an option to make a larger sized 18' drum from Goat or Deer hide. Below I have included some interpretations of the symbology of each type of hide ( of course you can also feel into it and use your own interpretations too).

Goat: Renewal, regeneration, fertility, abundance... think cornucopia, adaptable, nimble, intelligence, inner knowing

Kangaroo: Feminine aspect: Maternal, generous mothering, nourishing whatever we give birth to, inner realm. Masculine aspect: Protective, strong, traveller of the lands, outer realm.

Deer: Bridges earthly spiritual and soul realms, purity, fertility, cycles, ebb and flow of life, birth death and rebirth, rejuvenation, solitude.

What you will need to bring:

  • Your Birth Imprint from our session ( if you choose to do one)
  • yoga mat and cushion or bolster
  • Old towel to work on and to wrap your drum in while creating

Some info about the drums, culture, and how I approach and resonate with them.

The drum comes from cultures all over the world. Early records show drums in the hands of the Goddess and women figures and for this reason it is believed that the women were the drummers.

My family lineage is Irish and Scottish and I am traversing the journey that my ancestors (who were most likely PAGAN) have made. I run my workshops through the lens of me and my ancestors. I am on a journey and path to reclaim those parts of me that were lost when kingdoms, religion and missionaries took culture and knowlegde from my Pagan ancestors.

I acknowledge and pay respect to all the different cultures that have the drum present in their lineages. As a white female I acknowledge that de-colonising the spiritual space is an important and necessary part of drum making. I am on the journey of de-colonising myself and all the ideas I have about spirituality. I invite you to do the same.
